AUSTRIAN NATIONAL DAY

On October 26, we celebrate the Austrian National Day. On this day, the Austrian Parliament passed the constitutional law on permanent neutrality. Every year, the Federal Government celebrates this day with a series of events in Vienna. The Federal President and the Federal Minister of Defense attend a celebration at Heldenplatz. The Federal President lays a wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Burgtor and new recruits of the Austrian Armed Forces are sworn in. The military organises a parade on the Ringstrasse, and an information and performance show of the Austrian Armed Forces is organised around Heldenplatz. At Rathausplatz the Vienna Security Festival is held and visitors can get information about the offer and services of the fire brigade, the ambulance as well as the police.  Citizens also have the possibility of visiting federal museums for free or at a discounted fee on that day.
