Insider tips for Vienna: A visit to the original Viennese Snow Globe Manufacture

Vienna is known for many wonderful things – the Viennese coffee house culture including the delicious “Sachertorte”, a carriage ride called “Fiakerfahrt” through the city centre or the many spectacular sights such as St. Stephen’s Cathedral or Schönbrunn Palace. However, did you know that Vienna is also the birthplace of the world-renowned snow globe? More than 100 years ago, the Viennese Erwin Perzy invented the glass sphere with falling snow inside. The formula for this special snow is top secret and rightly so. Nowhere else does the snow in the glass fall so beautifully and gently on miniature landscapes, animals or sights as in the original Viennese snow globes. A visit to the Viennese Snow Globe Manufacture including its museum is really worth your time, because every single snow globe is produced by hand. The Snow Globe Manufacture was founded in 1900 in Vienna’s seventeenth district and a few years later Erwin Perzy was honoured by the Austrian Emperor for his great invention. Today the manufactory is run by the third and fourth generation of the Perzy family and receives product requests from all over the world.

So, if you are looking for an unique gift that is made with love and care, you will definitely find it here.
