Insider tips for Vienna: A guided tour through the university building
Would you like to get a taste of the Viennese student life without the mainstream touristy stuff? The University of Vienna offers the perfect opportunity to do so. With approximately 94,000 students and over 9,500 employees, it is the largest university in Austria. That’s why Austrians call it “Hauptuni”. At the same time, the University of Vienna is also the oldest university in the German-speaking world. Founded in 1365, the University of Vienna celebrated its 650th anniversary in 2015. With an offer of nearly 200 recognized studies, the university makes a major contribution to the Austrian educational system. If you are also interested in the history and the architecture of this impressive building, you will love this guided tour.
The tour takes about an hour and leads from the auditorium into the famous “Arkadenhof”, further into the reading hall of the historical university library, as well as into the main ceremonial chamber. The guided tours always take place on Thursday and Saturday. There is also a possibility to book a private tour for groups.
