A lot of customs and traditions like the Easter bunny or colourful Easter eggs were built around this holiday. If you want to get to know the Austrian culture around the Easter period, visit one of Vienna’s Easter markets. They offer a wide variety of artfully decorated eggs and other traditional Easter decorations. You will also find culinary specialities there!
Easter market in front of Schönbrunn Palace
One of Vienna’s Easter markets can be found right in front of Schönbrunn Palace. This Easter market is opened from 17 March to 2 April 2018, daily from 10.00 am to 06.00. Around 60 exhibitors present handmade Easter decorations, coloured eggs, Easter wreaths, carvings and more. In addition, you can listen to live music and eat traditional and regional dishes like “Osterpinze” or “Kaiserschmarrn”. Enjoy a piece of Austrian culture in front of Schönbrunn Palace!
Old Viennese Easter market
The Old Viennese Easter market is located at the Freyung, which is one of the biggest and best-known squares of Vienna’s old town. The market is opened from 31 March to 17 April, daily from 10.00 am to 07.30 pm. You will definitely get into the Easter mood with more than 40.000 Easter eggs in all colours and sizes, handicrafts and gifts. Furthermore, there are creative workshops for children and culinary delights like the traditional “Osterlamm”, a sweet pastry.
Easter market “Am Hof”
The Easter market “Am Hof” offers contemporary and traditional handicrafts. From 17 March to 2 April 2018, the market is opened from Monday to Thursday from 11.00 am to 08.00 pm and from Friday to Sunday from 10.00 am to 08.00 pm.
